Loretta Swit, an actress who won an Emmy for her role as Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan on the classic television series "M*A*S*H," passed away at the age of 87. According to her publicist, Harlan Boll, she passed away at home in New York City from natural causes.
 Swit was one of the most well-known people on American television in the 1970s and 1980s. For her work on "M*A*S*H," she received ten nominations and two Emmy Awards. She appeared in 240 of the 251 episodes of the show, making her one of the most well-known cast members alongside Alan Alda.Swit had a successful career in theater and television in addition to her well-known role.   Her appearances on television include "Gunsmoke," "Mission: Impossible," and "Hawaii Five-O." Swit also had a long career in theater, winning the Sarah Siddons Award in 1991 and appearing on Broadway in shows like "Mame" and "Same Time, Next Year."
 Off-screen, she was a passionate painter and advocate for animal rights. Anti-cruelty organizations received the proceeds from her 2017 book "SwitHeart," which featured watercolor paintings and her activism. Swit received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1989. From her first marriage to actor Dennis Holahan, Swit had no children. Her death follows that of another "M*A*S*H" actor, Patrick Adiarte, who passed away recently at the age of 82.
